Great Improvisations, Fabulous Monologues, & amazing Cold Readings at the Hollywood Players Actor's Group Workshop!

Dec. 8th was another fabulous HPAG Workshop!  Happy Actors making memories!
two of the actresses had to leave early and didn't get in the group pic. :(
We started off the workshop in our circle and everyone said their favorite color, movie, and where they were born.  I thought I'd mix it up a bit.

Next we did some physical warm ups, followed by some vocal warm ups.

We did some really fun acting exercises. One that I like to call "The Emotional Wall". That was really cool. I called out different emotions and the actors had to convey that emotion on their face. Some were really great!!

FAMOUS LINES
Rather then doing affirmations, I had the group recite famous lines from movies. We did that all together.

IMPROVISATIONS

#1 IMPROV: The first Improv was with Kelly Mullis, Rachel and David. Rachel and I played two bimbo actresses who are sisters and we meet with producer who we think wants to put us in his movie, but it turns out he's a porno producer.  Then Rachel suddenly became a ninja and karate chopped our way out of their. Actually, producer David ran away.  He got scared.

#2 IMPROV: Angela played a perfect robot model that was bought on line by Jerry.  Jerry is very controlling and kind of a jerk.  Angela is the perfect girlfriend.  She aims to serve and to please. Nothing bothers her, because she doesn't feel any emotions.  When Michael realizes that Angela is kind of being abused, he expresses his concern when Jerry goes to the bathroom.  Michael and Angela have a nice conversation until Jerry comes back and gets mad that Angela has been chatting and using up her "Data". It was a really funny improv! I loved it.  Angela was perfect!!

IMPROV #3: Kareem plays a nun in charge and Jasmine is a new nun to the convent. It's come to Kareema's attention that there is an issue with Jasmine...but she just doesn't get around to saying what it is.  The improv was getting a bit long, so I sent Rachel in to play Sister Agnus who was going to help do a procedure on Jasmine to undo her being a VAMPIRE! Jasmine is a vampire in hiding at the convent.  Poor Jasmine didn't know what was going on.  It turned into an all out ambush on Jasmine. Everyone did great!
I love this photo!!! Poor Jasmine!!
COLD READINGS!!!!

BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL:  Jerry and Angela.  Angela plays a kind of bitchy girl who's car brakes down and Jerry tries to help her.  She is distrustful and rude to Jerry's character. Both of them did a great job with these characters!
THE FAMILY BUSINESS:  David and Jasmine. Jasmine plays a real estate person for the rich and famous. David plays a womanizer who has an interesting relationship with Jasmine. Jasmine is not only a relator but she's also a madam.  David was great as the sleezy guy who hires prostitutes for top dollar.  Great work guys!
BEAUTY & THE BEAST:  Rachel plays a wonderfully strong female character in this great scene. She's helping to clean up the streets of New York City of gang presence.  Until things go terrible wrong and someone gets killed.  Kareema was also in the second part of this scene. She brought a passion and an urgency to the scene that was perfect.  Rachel had a real grasp on what this character was all about.  They will all be off book for this scene next Sunday. Can't wait to see it again! ;)

THE FOLLOWING: Angela and David don't like each other in this scene.  David wants nothing to do with Angela.  She's trouble.  The second scene is a bit warmer.  Angela becomes more charming but she's still a brat!  I liked the dynamic of these two characters!  :)
ANGER MANAGEMENT:  Jerry and Michael are coworkers at a ladies lingerie store. It turns out that they are also both 'cross dressers'.  This was an outrageous scene and the guys did great!
BETRAYAL: One of my favorite shows on TV! Rachel plays an attorney assigned to represent David's character. She's strong and sassy and they have great bantering moments back and forth. I love how confident Rachel was in this scene. In the second photo below with Jerry playing KARSTEN. She takes control of the meeting and Karsten in no match for the power of this attorney. I loved this scene. This one will also be memorized for next Sunday!!
HAWAII Five O: Michael plays Danny and he meets Jasmine's character who is lost on the Island. They have a momentary flirtation and then Jasmine's character passes out and ends up being helped by 'Danny'. It's a really cute scene and those guys did really well.

BLOOD RELATIVES:  Kareema and Jerry play brother and sister who discuss their other sister is stealing money from Jerry.  It was a quick short scene but they did great. Kareema was clearly upset by the information she was learning from brother Jerry.

SCENE FROM CASINO:  (unfortunately we have no photos of this scene). David and I did a really fun and energetic version of the Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci scene from Casino in which I'm complaining about Ace having someone from the hotel beat up my friend. I loved doing this scene with David. It went really fast and everyone seemed to like it! We were off book.  Only way to act!

SEVEN DAYS A KINGPIN: Kareema and Michael play two people dating. Michael comes to Kareema and says he needs 10K because a friend is in trouble. She doesn't have that kind of money but her uncle does, so she sends him to talk to the uncle.  The uncle gives him the money under the assumption that Michael will get her an engagement ring with the money.  I re-directed this scene for Michael to have more urgency when asking for the money.  They did really great!!
Both Jerry and Kareema did monologues for the group as well.  I love when people perform monologues. It's a scary thing sometimes to just stand on stage and speak. I'm really impressed with how far Kareem has come with her acting and her confidence.  I'm very proud of her!

Jerry did great with his monologue as well. David and I were directing him to make it better. Jerry took our notes and it got better and better every time he performed it.  Good job!
So there you have it!  One more day in the land of HOLLYWOOD DREAMS coming true!
You've got to check out the HPAG Workshop.  It's a total blast!!   I'm not just saying that! Ask anyone who's been!! :) Sign up for the next one on Dec. 15th!!
